Thanks for everything!!  Goodbye Juan Mata!!

        There is only Juan Mata

Chelsea FC recently awarded this year’s 2012 player of the year.  Amongst the candidates, everyone knew that there was only going to be juan winner.  This year saw Juan Mata take home the prize in his first season at the club.  Mata has been the most consistent and dependable players this season and is more than fully deserving of the trophy.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said about Mata?  Where to begin? This season was marred with drama from the AVB saga to the breathless night at the Nou Camp.  When players took their turns falling in and out of form throughout the season; Mata went along and played every match with consistency and with his heart on his sleeve.  We always got 110% from the little Spaniard and that is something I believe is more valuable than his ability on the ball.  I really don’t know what we would have done without him; he was our creative spark, our marathon man (52 appearances for god’s sake!!). I won’t even try finding words to compliment his game and attitude because I would simply run out of superlatives.  I can only say thank you to Juan Mata for a magnificent season.  We have one more match where we need him at his best and I know he will bring it.

Thanks for the memories!

Mata set for medical at United

This has been in the pipeline for a while now, edging closer and closer day by day.  I’ve just been in utter denial.  This is going to hurt.  Maybe I was praying for a last minute collapse or for Mata to fail his medical.  However, I know I am just delaying the inevitable.  Selling him to United is just a slap in the face.  Honestly, I would have sold him for less to PSG or Monaco rather than United.  Why Manchester United??  You would think that the big clubs would have learned their lesson with Van Persie.  Don’t sell your best players to direct rivals!!!!  This whole thing is just strange.  From the beginning, Mourinho drops him for no apparent reason.  I don’t buy into the whole, “he doesn’t fit into my system.”  He’s good enough to fit into any system or he can learn to adapt.  He was our best player for the last two seasons.  He deserved more respect throughout this whole debacle.  This is what annoys me.  There is no clear explanation as to why he was dropped and subsequently sold in a flash.  I want to say there was a falling out between Mourinho and Mata but I can’t fathom it.  Mata just does not strike me as a rebellious player or a person who would fall out of line.  Hopefully, one of these days, Mata will release his autobiography and all questions will be answered.  For now, I will just have to live with it and wince every time he wears that red shirt.

What do you all think?
